Half Moon Bay is a coastal city located in
the south of San Francisco. The city in itself is not very big and it doesn't
have a real interest for tourists. We went there almost by chance because we
wanted to reach San Francisco from Los Angeles by car, but it was too far away
to achieve it in a day; so we decided to sleep there, primarily because the
motels were cheaper than in other cities of the coast.
When we arrived there by
car, we were flabbergasted by the beautiful uncrowded beach which had the shape
of a crescent moon. It was very windy and we knew that every year accidents
happen because of sharks so we stayed on the beach. But we were, with a few
other tourists, the only ones who stayed on the beach without daring to put a
toe in the water: the great majority of the people there came on this special
beach to practice kitesurfing. In fact, it's one of the most famous spots in
California for water sport: the wind is strong and constant throughout the
year, there isn't any rock under water all along the beach against kitesurfers
can get hurt and the several meters high waves allow kitesurfers to perform the
craziest figures.
I spent most of the afternoon on the beach watching those
people being towed with these big kites, and this filled me with wonder so much
that the following summer I registered in an intensive kitesurfing training in
south of France!
Good article !
RépondreSupprimerYou make me laugh because I can easily imagine you in front of the bay watching all the kitsurfers with envy and think about the awful sharks hidding in the sea... I would like to know what kind of feelings do you have when you do kitsurfing and if it's as difficult as surfing. And know a question: would you dare now to kitsurf in the half moon bay ?

Hi!
SupprimerKitesurfing is for me definitely the most sensational sport I've ever practiced. The feeling of being violently pulled out of the water by the kite is just incredible ! And when you glide over the water increasing your speed by lowering the kite just above the waves, that's huge!
In fact, it's a bit more difficult than surfing, because you have to manage your board in the waves and your kite at the same time, which is quiet complicated when you begin because the wind can turn or loose its power at any moment. But when you got it you have so much fun !!
I think that if I have the opportunity to kitesurf there I would dare to, otherwise I think I would regret it all my life!

Hey Kitesurfer,
RépondreSupprimerI really enjoyed how you've reached this new passion. In fact, this meeting wasn't expected and I can imagine easily your face when you came here and said "Oh, thanks God for bringing me here". Once, I practiced a few kitesurfing, actually at the same place than you hehe, and I discovered this wonderful liberty of riding waves on the ocean... An amazing experience! Unfortunately, I live in Strasbourg and opportunities of reaching oceans are rare... However your post gives me back those feelings I had according to water sports. I hope we'll both surf on waves together a day!
Nevertheless, please use more commas in your posts...
Sea you,

Hi!
SupprimerYes, if I remember well you did the kitesurfing training just two weeks after me, in the UCPA center of Hourtin, on the coast next to Bordeaux. I liked it so much that I went there again the next summer! Unfortunately, it was the last time I could go there because they only accept people under 18...
I've heard that a large artificial lake exists next to Metz and that it's possible to kitesurf there, it would be so great if we go there together for a week-end during summer, rent some kites and enjoy this feeling of gliding over the water once again!
